Let’s use April to discuss one of the fastest growing and quickly evolving treatment products in the world of Aesthetic medicine today: Dermal Fillers for wrinkles and skin rejuvenation.
If you want to reduce facial wrinkles and lines without having to go through surgery, dermal fillers are a wonderful option. The micro droplets of hyaluronic acid add moisture to the skin, therefore thickening it and reducing wrinkles and dryness.
→What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal filler injections is an aesthetic treatment aimed at replenishing your body’s own source of hyaluronic acid, slowing down visible signs of ageing. They are safe and effective treatments to rejuvenate your skin in a way that creams and moisturisers simply cannot do.
Dermal fillers are injected into your skin with an extra-fine needle. They can be accurately placed beneath a wrinkle to “fill it out from the inside” or they can be injected in micro-droplets to create a fresh, natural and more youthful appearance plumping up your skin from within and encouraging the formation of new collagen.
Fillers are fantastically versatile as they can:
- Smooth away facial wrinkles
- Soften facial contours such as cheeks and chin
- Improve the appearance of acne scars
- Create fuller lips
Dermal filler skin rejuvenation treatments are effective in reversing the damage caused by photo-aging particularly in those difficult to treat areas that ‘give away’ your age, such as:
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Backs of your hands.
→How I use Dermal Fillers at my practice
I use dermal fillers at my practice to:
- Smooth away facial lines and wrinkles
- Create fuller lips
- Shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin
- In more recent times used to revitalize the skin
Of course there are more options available and you can contact my rooms on (011) 616 4040 to find out more and book an appointment.
Remember to always work with a trained doctor, and ensure the product he/she is using is of the highest quality.
I want you to know that dermal fillers at my practice are extremely safe. I only use clinically studied dermal fillers with a great reputation within the aesthetic industry. I want you to, not only benefit from my experience but you also get peace of mind that the product being used is at the pinnacle of modern filler technology. I want to offer predictable and satisfactory results at all times.
The most common treatment areas for dermal fillers:
- Nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds)
- Between the eyebrows (the glabella lines)
- Lips (adding volume and shape)
- Cheek augmentation
- Skin rejuvenation
Techniques and indications for dermal fillers are fast evolving and cheek augmentation and tear trough treatments are fast becoming everyday procedures in my practice too.
During a dermal filler skin rejuvenation treatment, I will inject the Hyaluronic acid (which is naturally occurring in the body) into the skin in tiny drops, which draw water into the collagen cells. I perform the procedure with an extremely fine needle or cannula ensuring minimal downtime. After that, the product will progressively do its job by plumping up your skin from the inside.
Once the dermal filler is injected, it acts like an inflated cushion by boosting your natural collagen production and in doing so it restores lost volume and elasticity and also brings water into the cells to keep it looking fresh and supple.
That is why we can use it to fill wrinkles or rehydrate the skin for rejuvenation.
In most cases, you will only need 1 to 2 fillers per area, but for severely dehydrated skin Restylane Vital is indicated. An initial treatment for skin rejuvenation usually comprises 3 treatment sessions (4 weeks apart). Each treatment session lasts approximately 45 minutes each. Then you will only require follow-ups on a yearly basis.
Depending on the areas to be treated or the amount of product required, a wrinkle specific dermal filler treatment usually takes 30-40 minutes which makes it so easy for you to fit a session into your daily routine.
Who would’ve thought that you could reverse visible ageing with a treatment session once a year?
→What to expect after your Dermal filler treatment
Immediately after your dermal filler treatment you may look a little red. Sometimes clients can see small raised nodules at the treatment site; this is a normal reaction and will subside within a day or so.
I always advise my patients not to touch the treated area for 6 hours following any dermal filler treatment. It’s also important to stay away from the sun until any side effects have subsided.
Remember the sun dehydrates the skin whereas the dermal fillers are trying to do the opposite.
The results after a dermal filler treatment are long lasting and very natural. Your face will not look like you had any “work done”. The great thing about dermal fillers is that they gradually release their benefits over several months, which means that it keeps your skin hydrated and wrinkle free, for approximately 9-12 months. What’s more, the results after the injections will be visible immediately.
Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area for pain management. Today most Dermal Fillers also come with lidocaine (anaesthetic) premixed into the syringe for the same reason.
Lip fillers will usually last 6-9 months while nose and mouth areas are expected to last 9-12 months. The dermal filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. If no further top-up treatments are done the wrinkles and lines will return to their previous appearance.
If you do return for top-up treatments, then you will invariably use less product and save you money.
There is a VERY small possibility of allergic reaction when undergoing dermal fillers injections. There is usually localised redness and swelling that can last a day or two. Bruising is also a common side effect which can last up to a week.
